Glam Girls Motivation!

 

Going on it’s 13th year, Glam Girls was founded with the hope that a small gesture could brighten up someone’s day. Our driving and motivating force for keeping Glam Girs going year after year is the letter of thanks from the organization we support, Houston Area Women’s Center (HAWC).

This letter came to us from Anneliese Davis, HAWC’s Chief Development Officer:

Christine,

I have another great Glam Girls story to share with you this year! As part of our sexual assault counseling, clients learn about using self-care as a coping mechanism. Sometimes that self-care means working through the assault – journaling, going to counseling, etc. Other times it means getting your mind off the trauma by doing something nice and rather mindless for yourself that gives you a little boost. A new sexual assault counselor came to me a few weeks ago and asked if I could help her gather supplies to make special self-care kits for our clients. She was looking for toiletries, nail polish, hair accessories, etc. When I showed her the Glam Girls bags, she was floored!

So this year, your kits have gone home with members of our sexual assault counseling groups. They are giving women and teens respite from thinking about what happened to them, as they file their nails or do their hair in a special way. They are providing a boost in self-esteem and adding a little extra color to lives recovering from the traumatic experience of rape. They are helping our clients cope with the violence they’ve suffered.

As always, many thanks to the Glam Girls. You may collect shampoos, conditioners and nail files, but you give hope, healing, and a little brightness to women going through a dark time. It means a lot.
